Quaternary

Quaternary with length about 2 millions years is only a moment in 5 billionth stone chronicle of our planet.

Repeated cyclical global fluctuations of climate in quaternary caused development of covering glaciations. Last glacial cover reached its maximum in development about 17-18 thousand years ago. Eastern part of park's territory got free of ice about 15 thousand years ago and 13-14 thousand years ago the edge of glacier occupied hollow of the lake Vodlozero and stretched out to the north along western boundaries of the park.
